The American M16 half-track was developed in 1942 as an anti-aircraft platform and by 1943 a total of 724 had been built. Used to protect tank and infantry units against enemy air attacks, this weapon had an overwhelming success. The four-barrelled AA gun comprised 0.50 calibre machine guns mounted on a Maxson turret.
